I’m sure most of you who use Facebook have seen posts, that started this month, from your friends giving thanks for all sorts of people and things. I saw the above picture posted on Facebook and while it is laughable for sure, it was also very thought provoking. I went to bed last night with this picture on my mind. Isn’t it amazing how God gets our attention!?
I thought, how clever God is that people, whether they know it or not, are taking time to be grateful, not only by writing a daily post on Facebook but by spending time thinking about what it is they would like to say they are thankful for. There is power in praising God! When you take time to reflect on what you have, your heart feels joy, peace, and love.
I have been dealing with something for sometime now and everyday I’ve been praying about it but what I should have been doing is letting go of the problem and worshipping Him more with praise and a lot less petition. The Lord already knows what we need.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. – Philippians 4:6 NIV
I have teenagers! I say this because I learn a lot about my own behavior from theirs’. When they are complaining and not being grateful for everything they have, I don’t want to listen to them, if I’m honest I’m not feeling sympathy for someone following me around wearing their name brand shoes, complaining about what they don’t have while they are holding their cellphone and their car keys. My attitude is “oh really you poor thing you have it soooo bad! NOT!” And when I look at it that way, I can only ask forgiveness from God for my own behavior, for my taking more time to worry about things and constantly
praying hounding God for what I think I need or what I feel I don’t have rather than spending that time thanking Him for all the He has given me.
May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you. The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. – Psalm 67:5-6
I’m sure you have heard the saying, as the praise goes up, the blessings come down. Of course new blessings you have been waiting for do come but I feel one of the biggest blessings we get from praise is that it really does change how we see our world and all that He has given us and how much He loves us.
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Once you start saying praises, you will be amazed at how many things you have to be grateful for…
God I’m so grateful for the ability to write this blog post, to share Your word because You gave me the means to be educated that I can read and write. I’m grateful for all those things that work together that I have this blog and that my readers can access it so, I thank You for electricity, the internet, my laptop thank you for blessing my readers with a device to receive my message. Thank You for my eyesight that I’m able to read. Thank You for the guidance from Your Word. Thank You for my desk I sit at to write and my chair and the home You have provided for me….
As you can see above, one thing builds on another and another, it doesn’t have to be in a certain order. Like the scripture above, in everything, don’t just be grateful for the big stuff. Keep your mind on God, know that He is the source of all your blessings and be sure to give Him the glory!
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. – James 4:7-8
What’s so bad about this set of rules? I think it’s amazing that there are people so determined to take God out of any public place but after a tragedy you see crosses and teddy bears. You see someone crying on the news and speaking about God and then after something awful, it’s ok to talk about Him?
I think we should have God around everyday and stop asking Him for help after bad things and pray for protection everyday and do our best to live by the rules He gave us. Christians are being bullied and people are twisting the faith to make it seem as though we are crazy. People cry that Christians aren’t tolerant but then don’t want to tolerate the relationship we have with Jesus.
I named this website the seed and the harvest to talk about good things. My main purpose is to help people live a happier life.
But today I would like to say that the devil plants seeds too! And you can look around at our society and see that he is harvesting those seeds.
Jesus died on the cross for us… what can you do for Him?
I was inspired to write this because I see news stories all the time about schools telling students to remove a cross, HOA’s not allowing a cross but an Easter egg decoration is fine, cities can have a tree and elves at Christmas but no manger and lots more like the one I read today…
I have encountered many people lately talking about something awesome that they have been blessed with but then they feel the need to justify it. For an example, I was talking to a lady that was blessed and went on a wonderful vacation. She then launched into explaining how they were able to afford this, airline rewards from her husband’s job and this and that. You get the idea.
I felt I really needed to share, that you should NOT feel guilty when God has blessed you.
That guilt is nothing more than the devil talking you out of feeling great about the good God has given you. That said you shouldn’t go the other way and brag a sickening amount either. If someone says, “Must be nice to go on vacation.” a good response would be, “Yes, I feel very blessed and I’m so thankful that I was able to do that.”
God wants us to be an example of the good works he does. Don’t give the devil any credit by discounting your blessings. If you finally got that handbag you’ve had your eye on, whether you paid full price, got a discount or someone gave it to you, the only thing that matters is that you were blessed. If you get a new car and someone says something about it you can say, “Yes, it’s an answered prayer and I’m so grateful.” And move on, don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for your blessings.
Do your best, pray, give, love, be sincere and live your life as an example so others may come to know God and feel good about your blessings.
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart[g] brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:33-37
